ALMSGIVING Weekends during Lent

As a Parish Lenten project, St Ann Church would like to provide non-perishiable foodstuff to the Black Rock Food Pantry. If each parishioner or family contributes just one item each week throughout the six weeks of Lent we can make a substantial contribution to our local pantry.

Please refer to the schedule below and bring the following items to Sunday Mass:

Feb. 17/18: Bottle of Cooking Oil (24 oz.)
FEB. 24/25: Peanut Butter (16 oz.) and Jelly (18 oz.)
March 2/3: Tuna
March 9/10: Breakfast Cereal
March 16/17: Bag of Rice (2 lb.)
March 23-24: Canned Vegetable (16 oz.)

Collection baskets are near all the doors of the church.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Fridays during Lent

Why pray the Stations of the Cross?

"The Stations of the Cross provide us with great material for prayer and meditation. Tracing Jesus’s journey from condemnation to crucifixion increases both our sorrow for our sins and our desire for His help in avoiding temptations and in bearing our own crosses. Meditating on Christ’s passion can help us become more like Him in imitating His virtues of obedience, humility, charity, patience and perseverance." (From The Stations of the Cross)

Stations of the Cross at St. Ann is offered every Friday during Lent at 7:00 pm in the Church.

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.

What does that mean?

For members of the Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

Confession Times:

Monday -  Friday: 8:30am - 9am
Every Saturday: 3:15 - 3:50 pm
Weekdays and Sundays: 15 minutes prior to every Mass.

Why go to Confession?

"In the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, also called confession, we meet the Lord, who wants to grant forgiveness and the grace to live a renewed life in him. In this sacrament, he prepares us to receive him free from serious sin, with a lively faith, earnest hope, and sacrificial love in the Eucharist. The Church sees confession as so important that she requires that every Catholic go at least once a year. The Church also encourages frequent confession in order to grow closer to Christ Jesus and his Body, the Church. (From God's Gift of Forgiveness)

Adoration

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: 8:30AM - 9AM

Day and night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because of His Infinite love for us! The more time you spend with Jesus, the more you will come away feeling renewed and healed. Miracles of conversion, peace, discovery of vocations, answers to prayers, physical healings, and many other wonderful things happen where and when the Lord Jesus is adored in the Blessed Sacrament. They are the "gifts" that point to the Almighty Giver and testify to His Real Presence in the Blessed Sacrament..." (From Jesus waits for us in this Sacrament of Love)
